Teacher Tip Sheets

The NH PDC for Vision Education will create short, awareness level publications that will assist regular educators, general special educators, parents and others to understand the key issues in the education of students with vision education. The topics that are in development are listed below; as each publication becomes available, the topic name will become a live link to the document.

The Teacher Tip Sheets will provide information and develop an awareness of the unique educational needs of students with vision loss regarding:

  1. Early Identification.
  2. Qualified Examiners.
  3. Developmental and evaluation services access.
  4. Prevalence of vision loss in children and youth.
  5. Education goals and instruction that address the academic and expanded core curriculum on the assessed needs of students with visual impairments.
  6. Array of service delivery options.
  7. Transition Services that address developmental and educational needs (birth through high school) to assist students and their families in setting goals and implementing strategies through the life continuum commensurate with the student's aptitudes, interest, and abilities.
  8. The role of the orientation and mobility specialist in the educational setting.
  9. Access to assistive technology and other resources for students who are blind and visually impaired such as closed circuit television, Braille note takers, screen readers, and embossers. Assistive Technology Tipsheet (MS Word) | Assistive Technology Tipsheet (PDF)
